Adam & Jamie
MYTHBUSTERS
Review by Ross Anthony

Fans of the Discovery Channel's MythBusters enjoyed an evening with the show's stars Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman in Long Beach, CA. A big fan myself, I was happy to be in attendance. The event lasted 2 hours and included perhaps 10 minutes of bloopers and a flatulent episode that never aired. But most of the near two hour program was filled with candid stories from Jamie and Adam. I was impressed how open and refreshingly un-filtered they spoke. Adam had plenty of juicy stories to tell. Jamie tended more often to seek (or more probably make) a point:

When conjuring plans with which to attack a problem: "You've got to bring it into your head -- or it's just a pile of stuff in front of you."

The two commented on why their personalities are conducive to problem-solving despite pride: "Who is right or wrong is irrelevant. Curiosity and experimenting -- that's much bigger stuff than ego. We also don't mind hurting each other's feelings."

Though they started off by saying they don't like to talk in terms of favorites or best, they did accidentally admit a few of their favorite episodes: "Lead Balloon" and "Alcatraz." Animal rights folks would likely not be fans since Jamie & Adam insist, "For some things you just need a pig."

They also talked about their interesting, though not completely relevant studies. Adam pretty much is riding on his HS diploma, But Jamie, interestingly enough has a degree in linguistics. He speaks Russian and Japanese. Though they were quick to point out that their work on battle bots was the precursor to Myth busters, they didn't mention how they found themselves in the Hollywood stunt/fx scene.

As part of the talk, they entertained audience questions for a healthy chunk of time then ended the program with, what else? ... a fart. Ah yes, the episode that never "aired" entitled, "Facts about Flatulence" and "Lighting the emission." And since the video projection system did not include smell-o-vision, the crowd love it.
