No Way Home
Spiderman
Review by Ross Anthony

This film has enjoyed high ratings. I'm glad for that. I'm a supporter of films and love to see them do well ... and love to see all of you enjoying them. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this film as much as I'd anticipated. After being strongly entertained by previous Spidey films (I also loved the Doctor Strange film), sadly NO WAY HOME disappointed me. If you're curious as to why ... read on.

The actors perform mightily and the cinematography and FX amaze. However, the story too soon slips into a muddle. Out of the gate, filmmakers do a great job of earning sympathy for Peter based on the problems that result for him and friends related to the release of his identity. But sadly, the film abandons that enticing story. My sympathy for Peter is soon lost with his silly choices. Thankfully, Tom Holland's performance kept me engaged. A clunky multi-villian story hijacks the film and never earned my interest. What's this film even about? Is there a point? Struggling with theme, writers try to squeeze a bit more radioactive blood from "With Great Power Comes ...", but we pretty much see the opposite of that theme demonstrated here. "It's important to give second chances." Is that the theme? If so, that gets rather muddy too.

Don't get me wrong, there are some clever fun and games (I won't spoil), and the film isn't trash. But compared to superhero storylines of the recent past ... well, I've just come to expect more.

It can also stand for "Really Awkward Nutty Dinosaurs" -- which is quite rand, isn't it?) Being alive is the miracle.
