Common Man Caravan Update:
By Ross Anthony
Jim and Sue of Willits, California continue organizing a common man convoy of donated travel trailers to carry supplies and volunteers to those who need them as a result of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. The target departure date remains October 6th.
The finalized route will take the caravan through Yuba City, Truckee, Reno, along 95 to Las Vegas, then 40 all the way to Little Rock. Your cash donations will be used to fill any space larger than a toothpick says Jim who plans to spend an afternoon shopping for supplies with donated moneys in Little Rock. So please feel free to donate even while the caravan is on the road. Contact Sue and her sister Alissa to do that: Alissa at 530-587-1126 (Truckee) Sue at 707-459-5495 (Willits).
From Little Rock the caravan will take a sharp right south to the New Orleans area. Jim says he's talked with people running a clinic that is attempting to serve 60,000 people. They could sorely use some supplies. And Sue has spoken with the Chief at an Indian Reservation that has been hit hard, but hardly seen any one come by to help. Those are Jim's two aims at this moment, but plans to keep an eye open to see how best he and the caravan volunteers can help once they get down there.
If you aren't far from the caravan route, you are encouraged to poke around, ask your local RV dealer, or friend if they have a travel trailer that they would like to donate to hurricane victims. The caravan may also need tow vehicles and drivers. You might also ask your local filling station if they'd like to donate some gas. Thank you for all you may already be doing to help out those in need!
