Review by Ross Anthony

I love this phone.

First, it's got some of the power of a PDA without the bulk. Second, it performs the operations I most want in a compact unit.

I'm a writer, so I need a PDA to open up and let me type in a bunch of words -- pages and pages of words. That's the most important use of a PDA to me. So, I got a Bluetooth keyboard -- the STOWAWAY by Thinkoutside as an input device. I love my Stowaway too. The phone and keyboard even match perfect in two-tone color. And the phone sits in the keyboards cradle like a babe in arms.

I must say, I was at first, quite intensely dismayed to learn that the phone does not come with MS's mobile version of office (IE no pocket WORD and no pocket EXCELL or POWERPT) - despite pr copy seemingly to the contrary. I almost had a cow as a matter of fact, I was really looking forward to WORD! However, I figured out how to use CALENDAR as a cheap, raw substitute. The character capacity in the "notes" of a particular event is sufficient for my typing needs. I can put pages in those notes, then sync them back to my PC for real editing.

Also, other companies make similar mobile software for word-processing -- I'll have to look into acquiring some for this phone. In the meantime, Calendar, strangely enough, is making me happy, in this most important application.

Happy as I am, there are other applications at my fingertips: A 1.3mp camera/video, a voice recorder, and guess what, it's also a phone. For navigation, a really stubby joystick is provided. I like it fine, but the normal clicker circle deal works good too.

I haven't done it yet, but I'm told the phone can also connect to a TV or dlp, so if you can show your digital slideshow off of it. I'm looking forward to trying that.

I haven't found out how to get the phone to send a reminder beep every so often when a missed call or message is waiting. Other than that, I like this unit.

I've been avoiding the cell phone craze, so though it might sound shocking to you, this is my first cell phone ever. I figured if I'm going to be carrying this thing around, it better do a few other useful things. And it does.
