Big fluffy fun. Nothing new in the basics of the storyline – think ET meets Avatar. That said, the visuals are lovely, and at times absolutely stirring. The filmmakers also aim for beauty in the score. In fact, the groan of the Yeti has the texture and feel of a cello.
The writers don't feel compelled to keep things realistic, and some plot twists simply don't make sense. But the end game is the feeling, the sweet stirring inside you. And Abominable succeeds at this with shimmering pink leaves, floating green landscapes, and marvelous violin sonatas.
Overall, fun, funny, always compelling, and warm.
