Moody and artistic, "Ad Astra" is a poem that paints the void created by an absentee father with the deep black void of space. The extended metaphor plays along brush strokes of emotion and tone more than science. But, the science is beautiful to watch and easily forgivable when not quite plausible.
If you're looking for an action-packed space voyage, you'll be disappointed. But, if you're up for a creative and artistic visual experience and quietly emotional journey, buy your ticket and launch.
Brad Pitt says so much with his eyes and subtle expressions, the voice over narrative is almost unnecessary.
While I normally really enjoy Tommy Lee Jones, I couldn't help but wish Robert Redford played the daddy gig here.
