If Iron Giant and Herbie: Fully Loaded where to have a baby, Bumblebee would be that baby. Yes, we've seen the "kid adopts an alien" story before, and yes, this film hits all the necessary formula beats; nonetheless, Bumblebee is unique in its beautiful design, humor, and honestly earns its own sentiment. You'll undoubtedly fall in love with this yellow, blue-eyed massive metal robot.
Earlier Transformer movies didn't grab me, but this one connects emotionally. Despite the many scenes of big action robot-to-robot hand-to-hand, giant guns, things getting blown up; ultimately this is a quiet warm movie about a grieving teen and her new puppy, err, I mean robot/car.
Absolutely stellar artistic design, when these machines transform, the visuals are nothing short of stunning. And the way the animators give
this mechanical being emotions is absolutely beautiful.
