Politics as Usual?
The Campaign
Review by Ross Anthony

Funny. Important even. Sadly, the real joke is that the filmmakers didn't need to stretch reality all that much. Has our campaign process already entered the ridiculous? Was it always so? I don't know. Are we voters so easily swayed by mudslinging and name-calling? And what about those electronic voting machines? Are we really entrusting the leadership of our country to third party software? Absolutely entertaining, the film also seems interested in raising awareness to the abuses of our good old fashion American political system.

Will Ferrell is solid as the stereotypical professional politician. Clearly a caricature, and yet Ferrell endears audiences anyway. You'll love him even when he exemplifies the meaning of the word "Jerk." I've never been a big fan of Zak Galifianakis., but he also endears in this film. He plays the geeky underdog, but doesn't annoy.

While it has no problem descending into the vulgar and obscene, the film is aptly scripted with an ample supply of comedy, strong direction, acting, and a sturdy overall pace and arc.
