A nice line up of talented actors and a quirky perspective on a tragic moment in American history, and indeed, the economic history of the world. Powerful performances especially from Brad Pitt, Steve Carell and Christian Bale.
The film resorts to inserting quick eccentric ways of explaining dry economic concepts. At first these expository tangents feel rather desperate, but they eventually prove entertaining.
Audiences may find this film difficult to engage with, not so much because of the academic orientation of its content, but because there's nary a main character to like. They're all money oriented people who have little concern for the masses. Sadly, I realize this is quite likely realistic, it's just not the crowd that I would volunteer 2 hours of my time to hang out with.
That said, thankfully, several of these opportunists are at least shocked at the greed and irresponsibility of the others. Elsewise, strong performance and direction.
Hopefully, this film's presence will inspire more responsible economic behavior by everyone.
