This film is hysterical - a laugh riot. I loved it! Its poster is as alluring as a train wreck, and promises another blow-‘em-up cop movie a la Precinct 13. Upon first glance at the invite, I’d decided not to waste my time with it. Then I noticed this quip in the corner “From the guys that made ‘Shaun of the Dead.’” Well, now that’s a different story all together. I’d missed screening “Shaun,” but heard only good things and I enjoyed both the spoof idea and funny title. Hoping “Fuzz” dispensed more silly than bullets – I attended the screening and was not at all disappointed.
The film hosts scene after scene of compelling comedy. Yes, that London Station open doesn’t quite hit, and yes, a silly tacked on ending is not only completely unnecessary and unfunny, but somewhat detrimental to a harder hitting climax. But aside from these two bookend shortcomings, “Fuzz” rip-roars for the 2 hours in between. A high caliber mix of silly, smart, and odd humor propels this quirky story along with fervor. Fans of British comedy will love it. If you haven’t seen British comedy – give “Fuzz” a try.
The two leads are rock solid individually and together, both endearing and hilarious. The rest of the cast gives great support. The writing also rocks – save for that last ending. Kudos, too, to the director and the smart, hard-hitting editing. Editing this good seldom graces quirky comedies. This is a fresh, funny film.
