This film sticks like high heels in gravel coming
out of the gate. But after the necessary
unpleasantness are over (namely the contrived bet
against bet) the stars are matched and the back and
forth begins. She has an article to write for a girl
magazine (the name of the film). He has a bet with
his boss that he can work any woman to truly fall in
love with him -- oh so surprisingly in those same ten
days. Just exactly how that ought to land him the big
advertisement client I'm not sure. Anyway, if you buy
in (and even if you don't) the bulk of the film is
actually quite entertaining, funny and well,
cute.
I particularly enjoyed this line, "If I had a
nickel for every time I got into a fist fight at a
chick flick..." In total, I actually laughed out loud
more than once.
But the film stumbles into its climax sloppily.
After forgetting that earning my trust was difficult
for the film, I was offended to have to do it again.
But, admittedly, Kate & Matthew's silly dueling
duet version of "You're So Vain" was funny. And the
resolution that follows is sure to satisfactorily
fulfill what you might expect.
Overall, the grade falls somewhere between a B and
B+ (a B.5 as it were) - I'll round up.
