Got a book in you? You can spending years squeezing your heart out writing, editing, and rewriting it multiple times. And that would be the easy part. This film is about the hard part – getting the book into the hands of readers. More specifically, sidestepping the traditional publisher and playing publisher yourself. Word Slingers focuses on the emotional life journey, not the nuts and bolts. It follows a handful of passionate authors who are boldly stepping into the precarious rabbit hole of self-publishing while trying to keep their dreams in-tact, self-respect, readers inspired, and family fed and whole.
This rough-around-the-edges production entertains. The inclusion of Dan Poytner (he literally wrote the book on self-publishing) anchors this passion project, while the honest testimonials and captured-on-film trials and tribulations of the dedicated authors keep the viewers engaged start to finish.
Full disclosure - I am a self-published author. Watching this film, was like watching 10 years of my own life. Anyway, I can attest to its accuracy.
