Visually, Sonically, and Emotionally Energizing.
I am not the quintessential Billie Eilish fan. Yes, there are a couple of songs I dig, and then there's "What I was Made For" which is simply a gem. Divine inspiration and some beautiful wordsmithing from Eilish. What a diamond the producers of The Barbie Movie stumbled upon! It's a heart-hitting human experience metaphor for the process of becoming, told in words that also actually work for a movie about a doll. Wow!
Still, I don't think I would have seen this Billie Eilish concert film if not for the fact that it was shot by James Cameron (certainly, the 3-D sealed that deal).
Actually, it appears to be a team effort, they are co-directors. At times, Eilish, one hand on a mic, the other hand wielding a mini-3D-camera, captures the arena from her POV. It's a pleasure to watch Cameron interview Billie in quieter moments too, between concert footage. Unlikely, but potent partners in creativity. Eilish is simultaneously reflectively non-conforming and genuine.
The 3-D is solid and visually dynamic. I'd like to see all concerts captured in this fassion.
Audio? Hmmm. I personally didn't like the mix. But, mix is quite a subjective thing. It felt shifted toward the bass, which muddied the vocals. Billie and brother write great lyrics - and, sadly, I couldn't make out 90% of them.
I leave you with a YouTube link to an Amazon Music Songline production of Eilish works with a music mix that fits my taste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q1Uf2lnOhY&list=RD5q1Uf2lnOhY&start_radio=1
