Hospital of Emotions promises 80 individual artistically redecorated/designed hospital rooms to suggest the different human emotions: Resilience, Joy, Gratitude, Sadness, Anger, Compassion, Hope, Love, Fear, Jealousy.
To my surprise, most of these works wowed me with their ingenuity, color, passion, and expression of theme. Some were simply sublime. Even most of the ones that didn’t quite suggest the emotion for which they were labeled, were still pretty cool art installations nonetheless. The event on the whole proved to be quite engaging, cool, fun, out of the ordinary, inspirational and overall positive. Interestingly enough, Hope and Love seemed to be the hardest emotions to represent within these artistic parameters.
In addition to blazingly creative art installations, curators implemented appropriate and curious enhancements to help you immerse - as if a patient: patient wrist bands, personal health chart (you’ll need to get stamped approval from each emotional department), even the vending machines were full of healthy beverages labeled as “Self-Love,” “Ego-Booster,” “Stress-Killer,” Etc.
My friend and myself enjoyed ourselves and would recommend. At the end of the self guided tour, a room full of hand-made pipecleaner flowers await. We were told, the proceeds of which benefit the transition of the facility to Mental Health. My friend suggested, that being the case, perhaps the emotions should be put in an order that would most benefit a patient’s journey in such a facility. (IE: starting with the negative emotions and blossoming or healing into the more positive ones.)
Overall a unique, thoughtful, creative way to spend a couple of hours (more if you take the time to read all the room descriptions). This gallery also facilitates mental health awareness and reminds, “You are more than your emotions.”
